Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek Overview

The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a 21-day trekking adventure that takes you deep into the remote eastern Himalayas of Nepal. The trek offers an opportunity to explore the region surrounding Mount Kanchenjunga, which stands at 8,586 meters and lies along the Nepal–India border. This remote destination is known for its dramatic mountain landscapes, isolated villages, rich biodiversity and traditional Himalayan cultures.

The journey begins in Kathmandu, followed by a flight to Bhadrapur and a scenic drive to Taplejung, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga trekking region. From Taplejung, the trail passes through Chirwa, Sekathum, Amjilosa, Gyabla and Ghunsa before ascending into the high-altitude valleys of Kambachen and Lhonak. Trekkers then hike to Pangpema, the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga, where they can enjoy spectacular views of the mountain's massive north face and surrounding glaciers.

After exploring the northern side, the route returns towards Ghunsa and crosses the challenging Sele La pass system to reach the southern section of the mountain. The trail continues through Tseram and Ramche to Oktang, the South Base Camp viewpoint, which offers impressive views of the Yalung Glacier and the southern face of Kanchenjunga.

The descent follows remote mountain trails through Tortong, Yamphuding and Khebang before reaching the road connection to Bhadrapur. From there, trekkers fly back to Kathmandu, completing their 21-day Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek. The route combines high-altitude trekking, traditional villages, glacial valleys and wilderness experiences, making it a demanding but rewarding journey for experienced hikers.
